I was lucky enough to hear about this wonderful, and sort of secret, FREE baby swim class just down the street from my house! The swim school is called AVAC (Almaden Valley Athletic Club) and they offer classes for all ages in an indoor pool. The free class is only for babies under 6 months and it is a great opportunity to get your baby used to the water while being in the womb is still fresh in their little memories. The water is warm and feels like bath water, and there are around 10-13 other babies and parents. I did this class with Kolton over 2 1/2 years ago, and just recently completed the five week class with Shayne. Both really enjoyed it, and it was a great bonding experience for mom (or dad) and baby!
Shayne’s Bathing Suit: Gymboree// Swim Diaper: The Honest Company
The class really just covers the basics and is only 30 minutes long, one day/week for five weeks. We practice kickers (helping them kick their legs), big arms (moving their arms in the water), back floats and the last couple of weeks, they actually go all the way under water. Surprisingly Shayne did not seem to mind going under. She was a little startled, but okay with it. With Kolton, this was the one exercise he did not like.
I was able to locate some old photos of Kolton in the same ‘Barnacles’ swim class almost 2 1/2 years ago. Him and Shayne are within about a month of each other in these photos. They are so fun to look at and compare the two of them.
And here is one of Kolton when he advanced to the next class:
Thank you for reading and letting me share some wonderful photo memories!

[…] Kolton has been in a couple of swim classes in the past, but it was always the Mommy and Me classes. They were mainly to get him used to the water and teach him to splash and maybe go under for a couple of seconds. (Read about Shayne’s experience in baby swim class HERE). […]
