I am proud to say that thanks to Cricut, I am becoming a DIYer! Not sure if that is the right word for it, but you catch my drift. After experimenting with my Cricut Explore Air 2 and making some surprisingly nice Halloween glasses (check my post out HERE), I decided it was time to try my new Cricut EasyPress 2. I wanted to do something that is interchangeable for all occasions, holidays, seasons, etc., so I decided on decorative pillow cases!

Cricut Explore Air 2 and Cricut EasyPress 2

DIY Pillowcases:

Cricut has so many designs in the design space that I was overwhelmed! Ultimately I let my kids decide which they wanted on the pillows (with a little guidance of course). I wanted to keep it simple but still in the Fall/Thanksgiving theme. I also did not want to use too many colors since well, I don’t have a lot of iron-on colors yet. Gold and black won the day!

After selecting the design, I sent it to my Cricut Explore Air 2 and each layer was done in seconds. When using iron-on, it is important to remember to switch to ‘mirror’ and place with the shiny side down! I forgot this once and had to redo that layer.

The iron-ons are already on transfer tape, so that step is taken out, which is nice. I just placed the black writing on the pillowcase first, set the EasyPress 2 to 340 degrees and ironed on for 30 seconds. Since the EasyPress 2 has a timer so this was foolproof. I then did this with the gold design (being very careful not to get heat on the black letters) and it came out clean and nice.

What I love about the EasyPress 2 is that it evenly distributes the heat (unlike an iron). It gets very hot very quickly, and it has a timer and you can look up just how hot to make it according to the materials you are using. The EasyPress 2 is also available in different sizes to suit different projects. This was such a time saver and I love how they turned out!

I realize that for those Cricut experts out there, this is nothing to write home about, but for a beginner like me, I am proud of what I created!

What’s Next?

I am looking forward to creating my Christmas pillowcases next to replace these after Thanksgiving. In our house, we celebrate one holiday at a time. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Christmas decorations! But Thanksgiving is special as well and deserves to be givin the month of November in my opinion. After all, we sure do have a lot to be thankful for…
