It can be a lot of fun to spend some time out and about as a family. Seeing the sights, attending shows, or being in the great outdoors. But there is something about spending an evening at home that’s just so special. It can be nice during all times of the year, but it’s even better when it’s cold outside. This is why I have put together some useful tips for an awesome family night at home.
Build the Hype
While it’s all good to have an impromptu night on the couch, it’s better if you’ve planned ahead. This will allow you to get everything you need for an evening of fun, and also, it helps to build the hype. It’s so much easier to make it through the week when you know that you have a fantastic Friday evening waiting for you once the weekend rolls around. Plus, it’ll give everyone in your family the chance to cancel any other plans they might have had, which means everyone will be there.
Set the Agenda
Now comes the fun part: what are you going to do when you’re all together? There’s no shortage of options. You could do arts and crafts, play board games, share stories, watch a movie, or a combination of all of those things. In my view, you can’t go wrong with a movie night. When the winter rolls around, all I want to do is sink into comfort with my loved ones around me. Look up the best family movies, and let everyone have their say about which one you’re all going to watch.
Snacks and Supplies
You wouldn’t visit the cinema without getting a box of popcorn, so don’t have a cozy night at home without having plenty of snacks and supplies on hand! There are plenty of things you can snack on. It’s a good idea to prepare some tasty snacks, such as spicy ranch pretzels, and then order takeout food for an easy meal. You and your family will be well-fed and ready to sink into all the fun that a night at home can bring.
Clear the Schedule
When I say to clear the schedule, I mean for both the evening itself (nothing will ruin the evening like having to check your work emails) and also the following day. One of the joys of having these types of evenings on a Friday night is because you know that you’ve got the whole weekend ahead to look forward to. To allow people to really relax, and for the night to go on as long as needed, don’t plan anything for too early the following day. Tonight is all about relaxation, so stretch it out to the max by allowing people to sleep in the next day.
