December is the most magical month in my opinion. From Christmas trees and holiday lights, to presents, huge family gatherings and all of those Christmas parties! By the end of the month, I can’t help but feel drained and overindulged. Not to mention stressed beyond belief.

My husband and I have began our own personal traditions of having a healthy January every year. Last year, we completely cut out all alcohol. Unfortunately, this year, we just cut back (not easy for a mom of two). We also eat healthy, go to bed early, wake up early, and keep ourselves productive. While we stay particularly strict about these goals during the first month of the year, it tends to trickle down to the following months. I have found that having these healthy and attainable goals is more effective than a  vague New Year’s Resolution.

This year, as we begin to enter the month of LOVE, I wanted to give a quick update on how our January went.

We took a mini vacation to Kirkwood with our close family friends. This was Shayne’s first trip to the snow, and both kids had an absolute BLAST!img_3804-2

We had so much fun sledding and playing in the snow with the kids, and I even snowboarded a little (something I have not had a chance to do since before having kids). I am still very rusty, but I had a lot of fun getting back out there.

I was very surprised at how much the kids liked getting in their snow gear and braving the cold snow.

They even liked wearing their gloves, and continue asking about them since we’ve been home. I definitely had fun finding their cute snow bibs, coats and boots.

Cabin life was fun for them too. They were always entertained having their friends there. We played board games and watched movies while keeping warm.

We are looking forward to our next snow trip and love the memories we made during this last one. My husband has promised me all new snow gear and another opportunity to get out on the mountain. Happy wife, happy life…right?!

This month, I was also given the honor of becoming Godmother to my nephew, Fletcher. I flew to Tucson (all by myself) for the ceremony. It was tough being away from Kolton and Shayne, even for only two nights, but it was a very busy couple of days and there was no way I could have brought them this time. It gave me an opportunity to bond with my nephew/Godson and help my sister and Grandmother out since I usually have my hands full.

It truly was a special day that I am honored to have been a part of. I will not take my Godparent duties lightly, and will continue to be a huge part of my nephews life, both physically and spiritually.

The end of the trip was very bittersweet. I was so excited to get home to my babies (and husband of course), but it was difficult to say goodbye to my Arizona family. img_4047img_4083

The next trip will hopefully be with the four of us and maybe we can stay a bit longer and enjoy the beauty of the desert.

Now with the month coming to a close, it is time to prepare for all of the upcoming obligations. My next class starts in a few days and we are in the process of finding a new home, in a new town. The idea of this upcoming move is giving me some serious anxiety, but I know it will be the best thing for our family. More details coming soon…

Goodbye, January! Bring it on, February…I’m ready for you!

xoxo
