Our little Kolton James turned 1 on November 29th, 2013, and we had a super fun jungle themed party for him the following Saturday! It is always difficult to choose a venue for a winter birthday party since you never know what this California weather may bring you. We ended up selecting a clubhouse at our friend Marc’s beautiful apartment complex in Los Gatos, CA. The weather turned out so gorgeous that the party was mostly outside. The venue had a fountain on the patio, and inside had a sitting area as well as a full-sized kitchen. This gave us plenty of space to decorate. We blew up some animal shaped balloons and tossed them in the fountain. The kids loved this and were able to take them home.

We decide to have this birthday catered by a local Mexican restaurant. They set up a grill and salsa bar outside, and everyone was able to eat as many tacos, quesadillas and chips and salsa as they wanted in the allotted timeframe. This was very convenient for us since we did not have to cook or clean up. It was a huge success!

We also hired a face-painter and set up a bunch of games for the bigger kids. This kept them occupied so the parents could drink some home-made sangria and socialize for a bit.

For dessert, we passed around cupcakes for our guests with different jungle animals as decoration. Kolton had his own personal yellow cake with chocolate frosting from a local bakery. This way he could do whatever he wanted to do with it! It was his first time tasting sugar, so we were curious to see how he would act.

He didn’t eat nearly as much as we thought he would, but had a great time making a mess!

MARC4621In the end, this first birthday was a SUCCESS!! I am glad we have the pictures to show him one day!

It was HIS party and he can cry if he wants to!
